I want to thank the fine folks at Handicappedpets.com for helping me order the Walkin'Wheels "Mini" for our dog, Beethoven. For the last year, my wife and I have watched Beethoven's back legs get weaker and weaker. By this spring, he could only go out to the back yard at our condominium. He could not "walk" using his back legs, as they are now paralyzed. He would drag his back side using his front legs only. He would try to get us to walk him to his favorite field by Circle K next to our condo development, but we know he would not make it. Beethoven is a beagle - dachshund mix who will celebrate his 16th birthday in August of this year, 2011.
One day in early June, I "googled" wheels for dogs, and to my surprise, your site, handicappedpets.com come up. I want to thank Nancy Bregger who helped me choose the Walkin' Wheels "Mini" for Beethoven.
When the package arrived, I spent quite a bit of time adjusting it and the harness to fit Beethoven. He wasn't real patient as my wife, Lenore and I put him in and out of the wheelchair several times. We finally got it adjusted correctly, and he just started walking around the condo! We couldn't be sure if he liked it or not. At first, he would hide when I got it out. But, we found that by giving him some "fantastic" treats, he slowly got interested in it. One day. our four year old granddaughter, Olivia was with us, and she decided to show Beethoven all the pictures of dogs in their Walkin'Wheels that are in your instruction book. Beethoven laid patiently with Olivia on the floor looking at all the pictures! It worked! He began to realize that he could walk with freedom. We then began to take short walks through the condo development. I mentioned to Lenore, one evening, that I wanted to try to take Beethoven to his favorite field next to Circle K. The opportunity came one evening when we had our son's dog, Sally, a beagle with us. Lenore walked Sally and I walked Beethoven. He made it all the way to his favorite field, and home! This round trip is 0.7 mile. As of July, he can do this twice a day!
Thank you so much for giving Beethoven the freedom to go for his favorite walks again!
Sincerely,
Joel & Lenore Sarich and Beethoven
